Lipstick doesn't make you pretty.

Portrayed Toni

Written by Christine Fang (me!)
Directed by Yuxuan Liu and Noah Silverstone

The second iteration of Do What You Want, the work-in-progress solo project from a residency at East West Players.

The main goal as my directing team and I worked through the text from a dramaturgical standpoint, was to bring this away from myself, to create a character outside of myself to embody. And thus, Toni was born.

WHAT MEMORIES KEEP YOU STUCK IN THE PAST? Feeling like her life is out of reach, a woman participates in a new mental health treatment and is confronted with memories keeping her stuck in the past. A solo show exploring scarcity mentality, filial piety, bullying, and abandonment through the lens of a multilingual and multicultural Chinese American woman, invites you to surrender to “my fever dream of a quick fix to trauma responses.”

Running at one-hour, Lipstick was staged at Barons Court Theatre in London as part of the Voila! Theatre Festival.
